This collaborative series exclusively for women is being co-hosted by the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Center at Ashland University. Each month we'll have a time of powerful networking, a motivational "TED-type" talk as well as a chance to learn more about your community. We look forward to having you join us!
We will be discussing the realities we face as women living and working in a toxic modern culture, and how to give ourselves permission to take back the quality and joy of our lives.
Meet our speaker:
Christy Barnes, LISW
Christy is a Mental Health Therapist, and Addiction Specialist who has worked in her field for over 15 years. She currently works in Private Practice at New Directions Counseling Center and EAP. She received her Master's degree in Social Work from Ohio State University in 2007, and has been a Supervising Licensed Independent Social Worker as an Internship Field Supervisor to MSW graduate students for Ohio State University for several years. Christy has worked with teens and adults as an Outpatient Therapist in private practice, an Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Counselor, as well as having the opportunity to develop and implement a Chemical Dependency group treatment program for dual-diagnosed adolescent boys in a residential setting, all here in the Mansfield area.
Christy recently moved back to the area from Los Angeles, California where she had the unique experience as the Chemical Dependency Director in Compton California as part of a community care clinic, as well as becoming Certified by The Matrix Model Institute as a Key Supervisor. Christy designed, coordinated, and implemented the Matrix Model AOD Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) under the AIMS grant. This was exceptionally rewarding as it was challenging, as she worked very closely with local multicultural gang members.
Christy was also given the amazing opportunity to work at Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, as a Behavioral Health Therapist along side a large, primarily young female team of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Specialists within the Asian and Hispanic communities from all over the world.
Christy is highly effective working with both adolescents and adults in individual, couples, family, or group settings, and enjoys engaging people in the process of positive change. Her areas of specialty include anxiety and depression, adolescent behavioral issues, grief and bereavement, anger management, trauma recovery, substance abuse/dependence treatment, as well as conducting Critical Incident Stress Debriefings, and Psychoeducational Employee Wellness Seminars. Because she has such a passion for the health and healing of others, Christy feels honored to be given the opportunity to lend her experience and knowledge in any way she can help her community. When she is not empowering clients, Christy is either spending quality time empowering her own two children, or chasing some form of an adrenaline rush. Both, she finds highly rewarding.
